UAE National Day 2025: The Best Decorations, Places and Activities Across the Emirates

UAE National Day 2025, the 54th Eid Al Etihad, showed how a national celebration can transform ordinary streets, landmarks, parks, malls and family destinations into highly visible expressions of unity, heritage and community. For retailers, the most useful lesson was not simply that red, green, white and black decorations sell. It was the way the UAE’s best public celebrations combined large visual impact, heritage, family participation, entertainment and photo opportunities.

This review looks back at some of the standout places and activities seen across the UAE in 2025 and turns those observations into practical ideas for retailers preparing National Day displays and promotions.

Abu Dhabi: Thousands of Light Installations Across the City

Abu Dhabi was one of the clearest examples of large-scale decorative merchandising at city level. Abu Dhabi City Municipality reported more than 6,500 illuminated installations and decorative structures across Abu Dhabi and surrounding areas for the 54th UAE National Day. The displays included major roads, bridges, public areas and busy locations, creating a consistent visual identity throughout the city.

The important retail lesson is scale and repetition. A successful National Day display does not need to depend on one expensive centrepiece. Repeating coordinated elements—flags, hanging decorations, illuminated shapes, balloons or ceiling decorations—can make a whole store feel part of the occasion.

Dubai: Global Village Turned National Day Into an Experience

Global Village was another strong example. Its 2025 Eid Al Etihad programme ran from 27 November to 3 December under the theme “United”. UAE flag colours illuminated gates, landmarks and streets, while ten cultural installations representing Emirati traditions created additional photo opportunities.

The entertainment programme extended beyond decoration. Visitors could see fireworks from 1–3 December, UAE-themed drone shows on 1 and 2 December, the theatrical operetta From the Desert to the Stars, traditional Yola and Harbiya performances, live music and Emirati food.

For retailers, this is an important distinction: decoration becomes more powerful when it is connected to an activity. A shop selling National Day balloons can create a small photo corner. A gift shop can combine flags, gift bags and tags. A party supplier can demonstrate a complete National Day backdrop instead of displaying individual products.

Dubai: The Al Etihad Parade Connected Heritage With Modern Dubai

Dubai’s Al Etihad Parade was another notable activity in 2025. Organised by Brand Dubai, the parade brought together citizens and residents and travelled along Jumeirah Road between Union House and the Burj Al Arab. More than 1,000 UAE flags were distributed to participants, and the 2025 programme involved more than 500 cars.

The route itself tells a story: Union House represents the historical beginning of the Union, while the Burj Al Arab represents the modern UAE. That combination of heritage plus contemporary achievement is a useful merchandising idea.

A retailer can create a display with two visual layers: traditional UAE imagery, heritage-inspired products and flags alongside modern balloon arches, contemporary gift packaging and bright event décor. The result feels more like a celebration than a simple sales display.

Sharjah: Community Events, Heritage and Family Activities

Sharjah’s 2025 programme spread National Day activities across parks, canals, heritage areas and other communities. Al Siyouh Family Park, Kshisha Park, Sharjah National Park and Al Layyah Canal hosted activities including traditional performances, competitions, children’s entertainment, youth discussions, craft workshops, heritage corners, food stalls and local talent.

Other areas added parades, heritage exhibitions, markets, local cuisine, fireworks, water sports, poetry, classic cars and community activities. The breadth of the programme is particularly relevant to retailers because it shows that National Day demand is not limited to one type of customer.

Umm Al Quwain and the Other Emirates: Local Celebrations Matter

National Day was not simply a Dubai-and-Abu-Dhabi event. The official 2025 programme included activities across all seven emirates. Umm Al Quwain held celebrations at the Creek Waterfront featuring traditional folklore performances, a photography exhibition, a productive families market and participation from government entities.

In Ras Al Khaimah, the official ceremony was broadcast at Corniche Al Qawasim and the RAK Flagpole. Fujairah used Umbrella Beach as a public viewing location. Ajman included Marsa Ajman, Al Jurf Family Park and Al Waraqah Park, while Abu Dhabi and Al Ain hosted numerous public viewing and cultural locations.

This matters to retailers because National Day merchandise can serve many environments: family gatherings, community parks, schools, offices, hotels, restaurants, event venues and outdoor celebrations.

Al Ain: Heritage, Culture and the Future

Abu Dhabi’s wider emirate also demonstrated how National Day can combine history with new experiences. Qasr Al Watan featured musical performances, Ayala dancing, falcon experiences and Emirati hospitality. Al Ain Zoo incorporated heritage décor, Ayala and Harbiya performances, calligraphy, henna, pottery, embroidery and other creative workshops.

The Al Etihad Oasis show at the Al Ain International Airport area added another large-scale national celebration. These examples reinforce a recurring theme from 2025: the strongest experiences connected heritage, family participation, visual decoration and entertainment.

What Retailers Can Learn From 2025

Across the UAE, five merchandising principles stood out.

  1. Make the colours immediately recognisable. UAE flag colours should be visible from outside the shop and repeated inside.
  2. Build a destination rather than a shelf. Combine flags, balloons, ceiling decorations, gift packaging, tags and themed accessories.
  3. Add an experience. A photo corner, balloon arch demonstration or decorated display can attract attention better than products sitting in rows.
  4. Mix heritage with modern design. Traditional motifs can sit comfortably beside contemporary balloon décor and gift packaging.
  5. Prepare for different customer groups. Families, schools, offices, event companies, restaurants and community organisations all have different National Day needs.

From 2025 to the 55th UAE National Day

The 2025 celebrations demonstrate why retailers should think about National Day as a season, not just a single day. In 2025, programmes began well before 2 December and continued through the long weekend, with decorations, cultural activities, parades, performances, markets, fireworks and family experiences building momentum.

For retailers, the opportunity is to mirror that progression. Begin with a compact National Day section, expand the display through November, create larger feature displays as demand increases, and make the final week highly visual. Use bundles to make purchasing easier—for example, flags plus balloons, gift bags plus tags, or a complete National Day party decoration set.

The most successful public celebrations of 2025 showed that National Day decoration works best when it communicates something bigger than colour alone: unity, heritage, belonging, community and confidence in the future. Retailers can bring the same ideas into their stores and help customers create celebrations that feel distinctly UAE.
